Anwar Visits Russia | Anwar Meets Putin: "Russia is a Good Friend of Malaysia"

(Moscow, 14th) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described Russia as “a very good friend of Malaysia,” and said the country is highly respected by Malaysians.

He also sought the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin to accelerate cooperation across multiple sectors, including food technology, nuclear energy, and military collaboration, in order to strengthen bilateral ties.

We have made our position clear, ensuring that cooperation between both sides covers all sectors.
We have already conducted extensive discussions and signed memorandums of understanding — now is the time to put cooperation into action,” he said during a meeting with President Putin today.

Anwar noted that the meeting covered a wide range of topics and was enlightening. He expressed hope that the upcoming meetings in the following days would proceed smoothly and yield positive outcomes.

He emphasized the significance of the meeting, which involved wide-ranging discussions on investment opportunities in digital technologies, energy transition, food technology, nuclear energy, and military cooperation, as well as engagements with the business community and industry leaders.

During the talks, Anwar thanked President Putin for his warm hospitality and the opportunity to meet, emphasizing that the discussions and their implementation would elevate Malaysia-Russia relations to a higher level.

We had an in-depth exchange. You extended to us remarkable courtesy, respect, and recognition. Russia is a great and influential country, and to be recognized in this way — my delegation and I are truly grateful.”

Anwar arrived in Moscow yesterday for a four-day official visit to Russia. This marks the first visit to Russia by a Malaysian leader in nearly two decades.

He is visiting Russia at the invitation of President Putin. According to the itinerary, after concluding his official program in Moscow, Anwar will begin the second phase of his visit tomorrow in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.
