Kuantan, April 6 – A female manager from a private company fell victim to a fake online investment scam, suffering a staggering financial loss of RM703,000.
According to Pahang Police Chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, the 47-year-old woman was first contacted via WhatsApp in early July last year by an individual promoting a non-existent investment scheme. Persuaded by the scammer, she downloaded an app called Quantedge Capital Co. Limited (Qc Secure) through a link provided by the suspect.
Following the instructions, the victim made a total of seven separate bank transfers to four different accounts over time. The scammer showed her fake profits from the supposed investment but prevented her from withdrawing any of the funds.
It wasn’t until the scammer repeatedly pressured her to invest more money that the victim realized she had been conned. She then filed a police report.
Police revealed that the funds lost included her personal savings, her husband’s money, and loans taken from her employer.
The Pahang police have issued a public warning against falling for online investment schemes that promise unrealistically high returns. They also urged the public to verify suspicious bank accounts before making any transactions using the official platform: https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my/.
