Fuziah: No More Than 3 Cylinders Each Time – Hawkers Can Still Use Subsidized LPG

(Kuala Lumpur, 4th) — Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Fuziah Salleh, today explained recent concerns regarding hawkers’ use of subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), stating that hawkers are still allowed to use subsidized LPG under certain conditions. However, the usage is limited to no more than 3 cylinders or 42 kilograms at a time.

Using "Makcik Kiah" as an example, she said that the auntie could use 3 cylinders of LPG to fry bananas, cook noodles, and boil water. In such a case, she would still qualify for subsidized LPG and would not need to switch to the purple commercial (non-subsidized) LPG cylinders.

“She still qualifies to use the green subsidized LPG cylinders. There's no need to switch to the purple ones,” she said.

Fuziah made the clarification in a Facebook post in response to a post by UMNO Melaka Tengah Youth, which accused the government of forcing small traders to buy 14kg commercial LPG cylinders at RM70 each.

She further added that the non-subsidized purple LPG cylinders are only meant for industrial or large-scale commercial users such as large restaurants, factories, and hotels.

“Don't scare the public with inaccurate information. What matters is that government aid should benefit those who truly need it, so that the middle and lower-income groups can continue enjoying subsidies,” she emphasized.
