Housewife Loses RM150,000 in Stock Investment Scam — “Left with Nothing”
Kuantan, 29th – A housewife was left with nothing after falling victim to an online stock investment scam, losing RM150,000 of her personal savings before realizing it was all a fraud.
Pahang Police Chief, Datuk Seri Yahaya, issued a statement today saying that police in Temerloh recently received a report from a 58-year-old housewife who claimed she had been duped in a stock investment scheme.
According to the report, the victim began engaging with three individuals via Facebook and WhatsApp from January 21 onwards, discussing stock investment opportunities.
“At the scammers’ request, the victim downloaded a specific platform and joined two investment group chats. Between February 23 and this month (March 18), she transferred a total of RM150,190 across 13 transactions to two designated bank accounts,” he said.
He added that in mid-March, the investment coordinator informed the victim that her investment had earned a profit of RM11,600, but she needed to pay various fees before she could cash out the returns.
“After following the instructions and paying the supposed fees, the victim was still unable to withdraw any returns. That’s when she realized it was a scam—but by then, it was too late. She could only turn to the police for help,” he said.
