Malaysia Ranked No. 1 Global Medical Tourism Destination

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 May – Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that Malaysia has been ranked the No. 1 medical tourism destination in the world, according to the latest ranking released by Dubai-based Nomad Capitalist. This puts Malaysia ahead of countries such as Singapore, India, and Turkey, reflecting the international community’s confidence in the Malaysian healthcare system.

He stated that Malaysia’s medical tourism industry generated over RM2 billion in revenue in 2023, with 1.3 million medical tourist arrivals recorded.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Dzulkefly attributed this achievement to patients’ trust in the professional skills of Malaysian doctors and nurses, the high quality of medical treatment, and the country’s friendly service rooted in strong societal values—making Malaysia a top choice for medical tourism.

“This success is the result of collaborative efforts from healthcare professionals in both the public and private sectors, as well as investors and strategic partners, who have strengthened Malaysia’s position as a global medical hub,” he said.

He also congratulated the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) for their dedication and hard work.

Dzulkefly added that the Ministry of Health will continue to strengthen primary healthcare, promote digital transformation of the medical system, and ensure the establishment of an equitable, sustainable, and future-ready healthcare framework.
