Viral TikTok Claims Gold Found at Negeri Sembilan Sand Mining Site, Menteri Besar Orders Investigation
Seremban, January 15 – Claims of a gold discovery at a sand mining site in Negeri Sembilan have gone viral on TikTok, prompting Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to instruct the Minerals and Geoscience Department to investigate the matter.
Social Media Speculation
A TikTok user, @nanina1414, alleged that a sand mining site in Negeri Sembilan is being used as a cover for gold extraction. The video showed a signboard of the mining site and claimed the operation was linked to the Menteri Besar’s representatives and a local assemblyman from Lenggeng.
Government Response
Speaking at a press conference after chairing the Negeri Sembilan Executive Council meeting, Aminuddin confirmed the reports and stated:
- County Officers: Local district officials have already visited the site to assess the situation.
- Next Steps: If gold is indeed present, the state government will issue a gold mining license upon the landowner’s application.
“Should gold be confirmed, operators must pay a 15% royalty based on the current gold price,” Aminuddin added.
Current Gold Mining Operations
Aminuddin revealed that only one gold mining license has been issued in Negeri Sembilan, located in Gemas, but the site has yet to commence operations.
He emphasized that any future discoveries must be officially reported to the state government, with operators required to obtain proper licenses before extraction.
Rare Earth Mining Update
In addition to gold, Aminuddin provided updates on rare earth mining in the state:
- Two areas have been approved for rare earth exploration.
- Both sites are currently in the exploration phase, with no active extraction underway yet.
The Controversy
The viral TikTok video sparked speculation, with some alleging that the sand mining operation is a front for illegal gold extraction. These claims have yet to be verified, and the Menteri Besar stressed the importance of transparency and adherence to licensing regulations.
Conclusion
As investigations continue, the Negeri Sembilan government is keen to ensure any discoveries of natural resources are properly managed and taxed to benefit the state. This incident underscores the need for vigilance and oversight in mining operations.
