Over RM5,000 Designer Jacket Shrinks to Child Size After Machine Wash
(Bangkok, 10th) Different fabrics require specific cleaning methods, especially for luxury garments. Tossing delicate items into the washing machine without proper care can lead to costly mistakes. A Thai woman recently learned this the hard way when her Versace jacket, worth 40,000 Baht (approximately RM5,250), shrank drastically after being machine-washed, turning into what looked like baby clothes. The incident quickly gained attention online.
The woman, who goes by nornor_nuna on TikTok, shared her mishap on the platform. She explained that after wearing the jacket fewer than five times, she decided to wash it in a machine. However, once the cycle finished, the adult-sized jacket had shrunk so much that it resembled clothing for a child—or even a pet. In a lighthearted attempt, she tried to put her hand through the sleeve but found it stuck. Amused yet frustrated, she hung the jacket on a hanger and joked that it was now the perfect size for her dog.
The video quickly went viral, drawing 6.3 million views and a flood of comments. Some users teased that she had accidentally created a "limited-edition children's jacket," while others warned that luxury clothing, particularly knit fabrics, should only be dry-cleaned to prevent shrinkage and deformation. A few commenters suggested seeking help from a professional cleaner to try and restore the jacket to its original size.
In the video, the woman stressed that this was not a joke—the jacket had genuinely shrunk beyond repair. Reflecting on the experience, she called it "the most expensive laundry mistake" she had ever made.
